Southeast Polk Class of 2020 receives $260,000 in scholarships

ALTOONA, IOWA (May 13, 2020) - Southeast Polk Dollars for Scholars awarded $260,000 in scholarships to Southeast Polk High School's Class of 2020 today. A total of 202 graduating seniors received scholarships.

"We are so pleased to be able to continue our tradition of awarding thousands of dollars in scholarships to our community's graduating seniors," said Joanne Moeller, Southeast Polk Dollars for Scholars' board president. "In fact, this year - for the first time ever - we awarded a scholarship to every student that completed an application."

The Southeast Polk Dollars for Scholars Foundation, as well as hundreds of businesses, individuals and organizations in the Southeast Polk area make these scholarships possible each year. In addition, the organization holds community fundraisers throughout the year, with its primary fundraiser being the Black & Gold Gala in October.

"We were able to achieve our objective of awarding a scholarship to every student that applied this year thanks to community support at our fundraisers and the sponsors of our Black & Gold Gala last fall," said Moeller. "We couldn't have done this without the support of our Gala Presenting Sponsors - Prairie Meadows, Polk County Board of Supervisors and Facebook."

In lieu of its annual Scholarship Recognition Night, Southeast Polk Dollars for Scholars is announcing scholarship recipients on its Facebook page with a special photo montage of all the seniors receiving a scholarship. In addition, scholarship recipients will receive a packet in the mail providing details on their scholarship.
